In response to butch.. many of us "people" who move to the south suburbs for a better education are very well educated. We often hold one or more college degrees and do not require the school to dumb down their curriculum.. as a matter of fact, we ask that they do more!!! You are categorizing an entire group of people for something that one person has done (who probably does not even live in the community). How many minorities have you polled to see if truancy officers have visited their homes? How many minority parents have you polled to see if they were as unhappy with things as you are? Whoa! Interesting reading above. I have lived in Glenwood over 35 years, am white and have neighbors of all colors and backgrounds. My neighbors are all law-biding, good neighbors, with great kids who play outside like mine did, go to school and get good grades, like mine did, and so forth. Their homes and yards are well maintained and when my husband was ill and dying, they pitched in and helped keep my home and yard safe and well taken care of. That being said, if you feel that there are problems, and I admit that there are problems in Glenwood, as well as the rest of the country, stand up and do something about it. My neighbors enforce neighbor watch as well as know what is happening with their own children. If we want safer neighborhoods, better schools, etc. it is up to the people living within the area to make sure theses things happen. Get involved. When my children were growing up, my husband and I were active parts of the community. Don't expect someone else to make the changes - get out and offer a hand. My husband and I were responsible for mentoring several children from less than desirable home situations. It takes a village.

Hey... I've been reading these comments... I'm 37, African American, Male, lived in Flossmoor for 22 years and graduated from HF in 1993. I hear what Butch is saying. He might not be as articulate as you'd like him to be... but the area has gone down... I can't blame it on any one group.. but things have changed. So... don't beat Butch up so bad.. if you don't know what it WAS like.. don't tell us about how it is now. HF was the #7 School in the State... there were no security guards. The basketball, band, and baseball teams sucked... but we got an excellent education. I've always been proud to say I'm from Flossmoor. But today... it's not the same. I have friends that I grew up with that Butch is probably talking about... and it's true. They don't care about you, your property, your house's value, nada.
