Dog Euthanized After Attack by Other Dog
A Homewood resident was forced to euthanize her dog after it sustained heavy injuries during an attack by a larger dog.
A 70-pound retriever escaped from a backyard along the 18400 block of Perth Ave. and attacked a smaller dog just after 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, according to police reports.
A Homewood woman was walking the 6-pound mixed breed on a leash when the retriever ran from the backyard through an open garage door and repeatedly bit the smaller dog, reports say. Children of the retriever's owner were finally able to pull the larger dog off, but not before it seriously injured the smaller dog, according to reports.
Police say the wounded dog was rushed to a local veterinarian, where it was determined the dog was not going to recover. Based on the professional advice, the owner decided to have the dog euthanized, reports say.
Police say they contacted the owner of the retriever and he verified the details of the attack. He was issued a citation for having a dog at large.

How traumatic for that small dog and the woman as well as the children that had to pull their dog off the little dog. Dog owners need to be more careful as to making sure their dogs are not able to get out of the backyard or home on their own.

obviously they meant Pit Bull since Pit Bulls are the only dogs out there that have ever bitten another dog or human.

So very sad. The retriever should be put down before he injures or kills a child.
Just last week my grandson was attacked by a St. Bernard and mauled. Not a breed I would think would do something like that. Thank God he'll be ok. The dog has bitten before. I will never understand why anyone would keep an aggressive dog. In my experience when there's been a serious injury, or death from a dog attack, there were previous warning signs.

Seems this dog has issues. Goldens usually aren't that aggressive but attacking a smaller dog and owners not being able to stop it? Owners have no control over animal or animal has issues. Time for a change of scenery for the dog. If it happens again to someone else the fact a known attack happened prior, owner will be 100% liable, no question. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd bet the owners never trained or walk the dog on a leash - they need training and practice getting along with other dogs.

The golden thought the small dog was a rabbit and pounced on it unfortunately causing serious injury to the small dog. The Golden is a very friendly dog great with kids. It was a very unfortunate accident.
