Flossmoor Resident's Stolen Jeep Commander Recovered but Damaged
The owner of a 2006 Jeep was notified that his stolen vehicle was recovered in Dolton, but he was told that the vehicle sustained severe damage, police said.
The Dolton Police Department contacted the Flossmoor P.D. after locating a stolen Jeep Commander in the 1100 block of East Sibley Boulevard on Saturday, July 23.
The Jeep, which had been reported stolen from a Flossmoor resident’s driveway on July 21, suffered “extensive damage” to the front and rear, and the keys were not recovered with the vehicle, according to the report. The Jeep was being stored at Stick Towing, 15332 Dixie Hwy., in Harvey.
The vehicle was reported stolen after a thief or thieves gained access to the Jeep by recovering keys from a 2006 gray Chevy Traverse, which was believed to have been left unlocked in the owner's driveway in the 2700 block of 2nd Private Road, police said.
It appears the thief or thieves found the Jeep's keys in the center dash compartment of the Traverse, then entered the Jeep and drove away, police said. Investigators recovered fingerprints on the center console, the inside of a window, the outside of a window, a door handle and the outside driver's side window, according to the report.
