Flossmoor's Nina Cooper: Names in the News

A feature on notable names in town who have recently been involved in news stories on Patch.

Earlier this week, we mentioned Flossmoor resident Nina Cooper in an article about a blighted property in the Flossmoor Hils area of the village. She’s been at the helm of the movement against Bob Shahwam, a man who owns a controversial, "eyesore" property at 749 Elm Street—next door to cooper’s house. "I'd rather have an empty lot with grass kept clean and mowed than this," she said. "The owner can sell the land or choose to build a home on it. What hurts right now is this house sitting here in its current condition." She’s been going to village board meetings for a year now in attempt to help get the home demolished but, as of now, no serious action has yet been taken. Do you think Cooper and her neighbors have the right to be upset about the blighterd property in their neighborhood?

Hard to believe that a Village that will cite you for having a pick-up in your driveway can't do anything about this eyesore! I can not believe that this poor woman has gone to Board Meetings for a year and nothing has happened? When a development on a tract of land on the north side of Flossmoor Rd. in the downtown area fell through the village forced the developer to clean it up and provide some landscaping. And even that didn't happen quickly.

The neighbors absolutely have the right to be upset when they are trying to keep up their yards and homes and someone else is ignoring the same. It makes keeping their own yards nice, and weed and disease free, as well as brings down the value of their property.

Time to vote in a new, more responsive village board.

The home is located in the wrong part of Flossmoor.

If this home were on Brassie or Braeburn, something would have happened a long time ago.

Or if it was next to the Mayor"s or a Trustee"s house.

There should be no 'wrong part of Flossmoor.' Something needs to be done about this - no more stalling.
