Free Ride, Fast Runner
A man in his early 20s was escorted off an Amtrak train for refusing to pay his ticket and then outran the police officers who offered to call a ride for him. Police described the man as black and about 5-foot, 7-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing dark jeans and a pinstripe black shirt when officers lost him inside Ravisloe Country Club. Officers had been planning to take the man’s prints for identification when he bolted, according to the report.
Homewood police do not release the name of persons charged with local municipal tickets.
MONDAY, JAN. 2
Domestic Battery
Adrienne Johnson, 46, of the 18800 block of Morgan Street in Homewood, was charged with domestic battery. Police said Johnson threw a plastic toy at another woman inside her home—hitting her lip and causing a “deep laceration”—during an argument. Johnson was arrested after a witness backed up the victim’s version of events, according to the report.
Loaded Gun Found During Traffic Stop
Kyle Watkins, 20, of the 100 block of South Mayfair Place in Chicago Heights, was charged with possession of firearm without FOID, possession of firearm ammunition without FOID and improper lane usage. Police said they found a loaded .25 caliber handgun and bullets in the trunk of Watkins’ car, which was stopped in the 900 block of Ridge Road around 10:30 p.m. for crossing the lane divider.
A passenger, Aaron Gilbert, 25, of the 100 block of Constance Avenue in Chicago Heights, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Cook County for driving while license suspended.
SUNDAY, JAN. 1
Retail Theft, Warrant
Margaret Ponce, 43, of the 17900 block of Riedle Court in Homewood, was charged with retail theft. Security told police that a woman later identified as Ponce left a store in the 17500 block of Halsted Street around 6 p.m. without paying for clothing totaling $114. A background check revealed an outstanding warrant out of Jo Daviess County for unlawful delivery of cannabis, according to the report.

Again I feel with your daily headlines focusing on crime
Activity in our area you are making our family friendly Homewood Flossmoor sound like a ghetto. Please remember who your target audience is--it's more than just an opportunity to write some LA style news story. We are a family community where many people have grown up and are now raising our families here. We don't necessarily need to know about every drug bust or every detail that you think might make your story "juicier." thanks for hearing out a local native! I'm just tired of EVERY post being about more shady criminal activity. There's tremendous things going on in this community, you might try digging a little deeper into the community or bring on board staff writers who were born and raised here who may be able to better shed some light on this wonderful community. Thanks.

Natasha, get with the real world. This is what Homewood is now. It's not like the quiet community we all grew up in. It's changed, A LOT. We are now raiding homes swat team style and there is crime. I commend the PATCH for keeping us up to par with everything going on. Why sugarcoat the reality of HW? Sure there are other stories we could focus on but I also think that these stories are important as well.

Everyone needs to calm down. I have not lived in Homewood for a long time, but I moved here because it is a terrific town. The Patch is able to show us the stuff that has been happening in Homewood for years - given what I've seen from the crime statistics put out by the Homewood police - and so it looks terrible. But Natasha is right, things are not getting worse - Homewood's crime rate is now stable. You can go a buy a big house in the middle of Indiana to decrease the crime rate. But then you'd be in the middle of Indiana :). Homewood is doing fine, but we all need to keep learning how to build it together. And, frankly, the Patch needs to rethink how it covers crime, given the weird anxiety about it in suburbs. I think it might better if the police just put most of it on their website, and larger issues - such as the recent raid - should, of course, get solid coverage by Patch.
