GOP Hopefuls Bypass the Southland

Mitt Romney, awaiting the results of Illinois' Republican presidential primary, stopped in Wheaton for an unpublicized private reception Tuesday night. Romney greeted children and other neighbors who gathered outside waving American flags and chanting “Mitt for President!” as he arrived.
Wheaton Patch editor Charlotte Eriksen caught up with him.
Neighbors said they received notice of the event earlier this week. Romney then headed to Schaumburg for his Illinois election night party. Romney also stopped in Vernon Hills and Rosemont during the campaign.
Newt Gingrich made a campaign stop in Barrington, and also visited Lake in the Hills and Palatine. Rick Santorum put in appearances in Arlington Heights and Mundelein.
None of the candidates made it south of Interstate 55, however. Why waste the time in a Dem-heavy stronghold?
At about 8 p.m., Fox News and NBC projected Mitt Romney as the winner of the Illinois GOP primary.
When and where was the last time a Republican presidential candidate made a stop anywhere in the Chicago Southland? The first person with the correct answer in the comments will get a Patch t-shirt.

I was in Three Brothers when a team of very serious looking guys came in, locked the doors and told us all we would be staying there for several hours. Nobody in and nobody out and no phone calls. A bit later, in walks GHW Bush and Arnold and entourage. We shared our booth with some nice Secret Service folks and KNEW our boss was not going to believe the reason for our 2.5 hour lunch break.
Bush had been at Bloom High School prior to his lunch in Homewood.

SGT USMC, I hope that your comment is NOT serious. If you ARE a Marine Sergeant, I would hope you are serving to defend the constitution of the United States, as the oath you took says, which provided freedom of religion. The race is not about religion and that remark is so overtly bigoted it is more than offensive. My brother served as a US Marine for 23 years, he retired an EOD Master rank of Master Sergeant and your opinion would sicken him and that of many other honorable service people.

Maybe USMC ment "morons"??? Most of us learned in 4th grade that religions are proper nouns and begin with a capital letter. Or, he just missed 4th grade and that would help explain his thought process.
