Judge Tells Accused 'Porn Truck' Driver to Steer Clear of Teen's Family

Steven D. Dutton is charged in connection with an attempt to lure a teen into his pornography-filled truck in Homewood.

A 48-year-old Homewood man appeared in Markham Court Wednesday in connection with an incident in which he attempted to lure a teenage girl into his pickup truck, which was filled with sex toys and pornography and had been modified to include a handcuff device on the dashboard.

Steven D. Dutton, of Riegel Oaks Lane, was scheduled to appear in Room 206 at 9 a.m. on a disorderly conduct charge, but did not come before the judge until after 11:00 a.m.

During Dutton's appearance, Judge Christopher J. Donnelly sternly admonished Dutton not to have any contact with the teen or her family, who appeared in court both during the court's first call for Dutton and again when Dutton appeared.

"I'm ordering you not to have any contact with the witnesses here," Donnelly said.

He warned Dutton that the penalty for ignoring his instruction would be six months in jail.

"Stay the heck away from these people—you violate the order, you go to jail," Donnelly said.

Dutton, who appeared in court wearing a suit and dark tie, had little to say during his court appearance.

When the teen and her family appeared earlier in the morning, Donnelly told them not to hesitate to contact law enforcement if they should spot Dutton in their vicinity.

"If you see him in the area, call," Donnelly said.

The family declined an interview.

Police records state that Dutton admitted approaching the Homewood teen, but portrayed his intentions as innocent, telling investigators he only wanted to take her for a ride, police said.

The teen told police she was walking on Riegal Road Sunday, June 12 around 4:45 p.m., when Dutton approached her. Dutton asked the girl to get in his vehicle, telling her he would give her a ride home, but she ignored him, police said.

Dutton began asking the girl where she lived and if she had a boyfriend. He then drove away and the teen called police. During that telephone call, Dutton returned and stared at her, police said.

Dutton again drove away, and police used the license plate number to locate the truck parked outside his Riegel Oaks residence, according to the report. Police said the officer talked to Dutton about approaching the girl and he responded, "I'm sorry, I was just asking her for a ride."

While talking to him, the officer observed "in plain sight" a handcuff device attached to a bar that was attached to the passenger-side dashboard, with a small towel draped over it, according to the police report.

After obtaining Dutton's consent to search his vehicle, police found a red lunchbox that contained women's underwear, as well as a black leather bag that contained rope, numerous sets of handcuffs, a whip, an artificial phallus and pornography that included "numerous" writings about bondage and torture, according to the report.

Police took Dutton to the scene, where the teen identified him as the man who harassed her, while her father then signed a complaint for disorderly conduct.

Dutton is scheduled to return to Markham Court on Aug. 8.

** UPDATE: On August 8 the case was continued and Dutton will now be returning to court on September 15. **
