UPDATE: Man Died of Multiple Self-Inflicted Injuries
Homewood police and the county medical examiner determined the body found on Dixie Highway on March 29 was a suicide, resulting from cuts to the neck.
Multiple authorities have ruled that a man found dead in a car on Dixie Highway Thursday committed suicide.
The body of the 35-year-old Hazel Crest man was found around 3:40 p.m. in the 18200 block of Dixie Highway in Homewood yesterday, Homewood police said in a statement.
Dixie Highway was closed between Olive and 183rd streets during an immediate investigation.
Homewood detectives, assisted by an Illinois State Police evidence technician, determined the cause of death through evidence in and around the vehicle and also through video footage, according to police.
Sgt. Denise McGrath said there were "procedural things we need to do" before releasing any additional information about what was found.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Johnny Anderson and also ruled the cause of death a suicide—the result of "multiple incised wounds" to the neck.
He was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:13 p.m., a spokeswoman for the examiner's office said.

Seriously, Angie Nicole? The man left a suicide note. He slit his throat. There were people on the street and in the stores on Dixie Hwy. There is no way someone could have planned this and gotten away without leaving some evidence or without being spotted. Kids are on spring break. It was a gorgeous day. Kids were riding their bikes and walking on the sidewalks all day yesterday.
Let the family and friends mourn this loss without creating a ridiculous conspiracy theory. This isn't television. It's someone's reality.
I will never understand why some people insist on bad-mouthing the HPD. They do good work! Sheesh!

Angie Nicole, Obviously you have limited exposer to Chicago Heights, Homewood has a far way to go, to reach anything near the Chicago Heights level of crime and poverty.

Why is the Heights being brought into this conversation? I don't think there should be a debate between crime statistics for either city. Crime unfortunately is everywhere.

Who knew Homewood had so many criminal forensics experts living here. Amazing. And without even being involved in the case you can render judgments. Good work! This is yet another argument in favor of eliminating comments from news stories, or, for that matter, the entire Internet. Would be no loss.....

Sounds like the HPD is leaving alot out. They took way to long to even make a statement. That's a shame because homewood residents need to know what is going on, especially with families. All of Dixie was blocked off & they couldn't say anything? Shame. Also, why would someone take there own lives in public like that?? Does NOT make sense at all.

Suicide rarely makes sense. Statistically speaking people who are always threatening and trying are the ones that don't do it. It's the lost souls that are quiet and appear "ok", the ones that shock everyone. Suicide isn't something someone contemplates loudly, if they do they are really crying out for help and won't follow thru. Suicide is a deep psychological journey someone makes alone, without warning. This is a shocking and sad event. God be with Mr. Anderson's family and friends during this traumatic time. Rest your troubled soul in peace Mr. Anderson.

Condolences to his family, but i'm a bit confused about some of the information here. A. He was discovered at 3:40, the blockade was up before 4, but he wasn't pronounced dead until 4:13? Also, it wasn't at Ingalls hospital, since he wasn't moved until later that evening. Lastly, Dixie Hwy is the jurisdiction of the State Police, and considering that it was they who did forensics, i'm going to say that it was THEY who determined the cause of death. And inquiring minds would like to know, what video footage? The traffic light cameras?

Here are the FACTS as we know them today. A young man took his own life, for an unknown reason, and his loved ones grieve for him. While I did not know him, his story has become known to me, and I have compassion for their privacy and sorrow. I am sorry for your loss.
If you want answers, or looking to eliminate your confusion, then you know how to find them IF that's what your truly seek. Frankly I doubt this because you could have done all of that before posting. Which calls in to question your motivation for posting this to begin with.

The police said he was discovered around 3:40. I just checked my call records from last week and I heard about it at 3:48, from a local who was listening to his police scanner. He contacted me immediately, so the discovery time seems pretty accurate to me.
The reason he wasn't pronounced dead until 4:13 is because a medical professional had to come to make the call. You are correct that he wasn't moved until a couple hours later. It seems like there may have been some miscommunication with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, but the person who proclaimed him dead was from Ingalls hospital. It's also worth keeping in mind that determining death is different compared to determining CAUSE of death.
I hope this helps to clarify some of the details.

I think that people need to trust the police and the forensics team that are behind this entire case. I am so tired of hearing made up tidbits of things that weren't ever mentioned in any article or police statement. The knowledge that is reported in these articles is made public for a reason and no one knows anything more than that. It is really no one's business to know anything about what a potential note may or may not have said, or what evidence was actually found at the scene.
Stop fabricating information; it only causes the man's family more pain and anguish. Have a little respect for the dead and all of those who were hurt by this tragedy. Let them grieve in peace.

@Dinkum, journalists reporting on a story as serious as this SHOULD be reliable, that's my point. Anyway, i'm not pulling all of this out of thin air; first of all, i work nearby and PERSONALLY WITNESSED nearly everything that happened from 4pm to about 8pm when the scene was cleared. That includes the State Police arriving, the initial forensics, and, well, the clearing of the scene. Second, as far as jurisdiction goes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_police#United_States . The only opinion i've expressed is that this article is flawed, and the majority of us rely on journalism to report the facts. No, additional details will not make this any less sad, but complete and correct information - not including anything that infringes on the privacy of the family - will reassure those who are in doubt that they are receiving the full story and reassure those of us who are in the area of how things are handled around here. I'm not even questioning the circumstances of this man's death, but do you think pulling up to work to find all of this, wondering what really happened, and how long it took to figure it out wasn't incredibly unsettling? Again, i'm not trying to downplay the tragedy in all this, but i will defend the right to question information that is being presented publicly.

Ann...you speak ignorantly and unintelligible! As a medical professional speaking, you can attempt suicide and successfully do it by cutting your own throat. Research it, before posting your nonsense. I was actually there and spoke to two different officers within an hr and they both said he committed suicide from self inflicted wounds. There was a video camera from the funeral home directly on his car and the detectives were in the funeral home investigating it. Plus that street is monitored by all kinds of other cameras that can be seen in te police station. Quit with the attempts of worrying a community that needs not be looking for a suspect.
To his family, my heart goes out to all of you and your devastating loss. Just know that at the scene, his body and car was respected by the police and fire dept the entire time. My heart was very heavy that day for the loss and I didnt even know him but I knew he was still a person who had loved ones. I hope you can one day find peace as I'm sure his intentions were never to cause pain to you in this profound of a way. One never truly knows the impact that we have on others lives until we're gone and unfortunately it's too late. Live in the moment and love the day and let each other know their loved.
