Homewood Resident Identified in Police Shooting
The 30-year-old Homewood man was shot and killed in the apartment he lived in after getting into a confrontation with police early Sunday morning.
The man fatally shot by police early Sunday morning has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 30-year-old Homewood resident Brandon Culpepper, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
Police say they were responding to a disturbance call at an apartment building on the 900 block of Olive Rd. just before 7 a.m. Sunday when they got into a confrontation with Culpepper. The sitution lead to his shooting death in his residence on the third floor.
Few other details have been released as state police proceed with an internal investigation of the shooting. We will update with more information as it becomes available.

Not releasing details is not an attempt to cover up. They know why they shot him. They have no obligation to reveal why they shot him at this point in time.

Police are public servants paid by the people to protect are way of life.. When is shot and killed by a trained officer an immediate press release is most certainly due!! All they needed to say was a man was shot and killed after pointing a fire arm at an officer.(if that is what happened) and an investigation is underway to determine if the shooting was just.. That is all.. Seems like that could have and should have been done Sunday morning..

I am confident the shooting was justified, but they could have sent out a community alert, it is not everyday a cop shoots someone in Homewood. A little up front info might have been a wiser move by the village, silence is not always golden. Again, I am sure the shooting was justified and cops have a right to protect themselves and others from harmful and dangerous people and situations. God bless them for their work.

The Homewood Police are no saints... I wouldnt say shameful organization but they like other departments have and have had their bad seeds, anxious rookies, and all out disrespectful officers. Why after a week haven't they given a full explanation of the situation? I went to high school with the deceased and I am quite certain he is no hardened criminal. Why was lethal force necessary? Im sure a stun-gun would have subdued the subject. But who knows??..... They haven't released a full report!

Please, please respect this situation and allow our family to bring closure to a most difficult situation. Brandon was my cousin and his family asks that only those who knew him and have a sincere interest in paying respects attend the service. You cannot imagine how difficult this is.

Obviously "concerned" is a cracker!!! I'm white AND an environmentalist concerned about endangered sea life (as well as people dying in Africa and elsewhere) and I agree that being black is nearly a crime in itself in some areas. But in Homewood and Flossmoor? Not so much. Our neighborhoods are pretty diversified and our neighbors pretty much accept and respect each other. Of course, sadly, there are a few bad apples on both ends of the "color" spectrum.
