TUESDAY, JAN. 10
Condo Association Harassed
A man was charged with disorderly conduct after police said he entered a condo association building in the 800 block of Elder Road around 1 p.m., forced open a bulletin board and removed the papers inside it. A representative from the condo association told police that the man has a history of disrupting their building. The lock he broke was valued at $50, police said.
Homewood police do not release the name of persons charged with local municipal tickets.
Heroin Hidden in Passenger's Sock
Ronald Simovic, 38, of the 300 block of National Drive in Shorewood, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police said they received a call about a suspicious car and stopped it in the 900 block of Olive Road around 10:30 p.m. Simovic, a passenger, handed over four bags of heroin hidden in his sock, and the driver was released without charges, according to the report.
Police said Simovic gave a written statement at the station hours later, explaining that he and his driver had snorted heroin earlier in the day; however, “there was no indication that the driver was impaired” when they let him go.
MONDAY, JAN. 9
Felony Retail Theft
Robert Carlson, 33, of the 13800 block of Western Avenue in Blue Island, was charged with felony retail theft. Security told police a man later identified as Carlson was caught throwing three bundles of copper wire over the fence of a store in the 17500 block of Halsted Street. He was stopped while trying to leave the store around noon and later arrested by police. The wire was valued at $444, police said.
Carlson was also processed on a Homewood warrant for traffic offenses and a warrant out of Lake County, according to the report.
SUNDAY, JAN. 8
Stolen Vitamins
Donta Owens, 23, of the 1500 block of State Line Road in Calumet City, was charged with retail theft. Security told police that a man later identified as Owens left a store in the 17500 block of Halsted Street around 4:30 p.m. without paying for four boxes of vitamins. Owens said he forgot the items were in his cart, but a cashier said she saw Owens looking at them while he purchased other items.
FRIDAY, JAN. 6
Thefts in Metro Parking Lot
Four cars were either damaged or burglarized in the Metra station parking lot between 6:45 a.m. and 6 p.m., police said. One car owner reported $1,770 in damages and missing items, including an $850 stereo. Damages and lost items for all four cars totaled $3,570, according to the reports.
Threatening an Officer
Anthony Standifer, 37, of the 200 block of Timberlane Road in Matteson, was charged with aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, improper lighting and no valid driver’s license. Police said they stopped Standifer’s car in the 18000 block of Halsted Street just after midnight for having one headlight and arrested him for driving on an invalid license. At the station he refused to step into a holding cell and relinquish his cell phone, and threatened an officer while approaching him with clenched fists, police said.
