UPDATE: Handcuffed Suspect Fled Police Custody
A police search near Dixie and Flossmoor Road Tuesday night centered around a man wanted for traffic violations, who fled police custody.
Update, 3:51 p.m.
Police Tuesday night were searching for a man wanted for traffic violations, who fled from police custody after being handcuffed during a traffic stop earlier in the day, according to a statement from Homewood police. Police called off the search around midnight. The suspect had not been located, and is not considered dangerous, according to police.
Officers used the suspect's driver's license, which had been left behind at the scene of the traffic stop, to locate his residence. When police arrived around 10 p.m., the suspect fled on foot into the Idlewild Country Club grounds. K-9 units from Lynwood and Country Club Hills, along with a Cook County helicopter, were dispatched to help responding officers search the country club grounds and the surrounding area. The search was called off around 11:43 p.m. The suspect was not apprehended.
"The subject is not considered dangerous," Police Chief Larry Burnson said in the release. "He is wanted for traffic violations and escaping arrest; a warrant for arrest will be obtained by the Department."

Update, 12:56 a.m.
The Homewood Poilce Department is holding off on all comments until at least tomorrow morning. They did say, however, that this was a non-violent affair and that there is no known threat to the safety of nearby residents.
Update, 11:30 p.m.
Shortly after 11 p.m., reports of a search helicopter and heavy police presence near Flossmoor Country Club and Idlewild Country Club began coming in to the H-F Patch Facebook page. According to Flossmoor police, it was a Homewood call regarding someone who took off during a traffic stop.
Both Homewood police and the Cook County Sheriff's police have thus far refused to comment.
