As reports of power outages throughout Homewood and Flossmoor are beginning to appear on the H-F Patch Facebook page, the Village of Flossmoor just issued a release in response to the issue:
A power outage in Flossmoor has left approximately 600 households and a critical Village facility without electricity after this morning's severe storm. The following areas affected are: Old Flossmoor from Argyle north into Homewood west to Bruce, all of the Park neighborhood south to Golfview, Leavitt and Hawthorne area, a couple of commercial addresses down at Kedzie and Vollmer and about 5 residences on Braemar.
We know that one of the causes for the outage is the failure of the transmission station affecting Homewood, Flossmoor and East Hazel Crest. ComEd crews are currently working on the issue. Currently, ComEd is unable to give restore times for residential customers. ComEd has called crews from out of state to assist with restoration throughout Chicagoland area. ComEd have restored about 200,000 customers today and have approximately 76,000 more to go. Call ComEd at 1-800-334-7661 for outage status update.
Patch contacted ComEd earlier to inquire about the outages. The spokesperson did not have an immediate answer, but said he will look into it and report back.
Currently, we know the Homewood Library is closed.
