Homewood's 2012 Fourth of July Parade
Despite the heat, hundreds turned out for Wednesday's parade along Ridge Road.
Families lined Ridge Road in Homewood for the annual Fourth of July Parade Wednesday, July 4.
Picking a spot along the curb with blankets and lawn chairs -- or just setting up camp in the shade of the tree on a sidewalk -- viewers claimed their perches as early as 45 minutes before the 11 a.m. parade began.
Jeff and Jessica Cook live in Oak Forest but Jessica is from Homewood. It's become a family tradition for her to bring her own family, which includes 6-year-old Emma and 2-year-old Sophie, back home to watch the festivities.
"We do it every year," she said.

Despite the hot, it was a really great parade! My 2 and 5-yr old really enjoyed it all. Keep it up, Homewood!

We live on Ridge Road, so we've had a front row seat for years. This was definitely the best parade we've ever had. Years ago it was just a huge line of firetrucks blaring their sirens. We we delighted by the Minute Men, the Historical Society's Horse and wagon and the Dixieland band was fantastic!!!

Why was there a Humvee blasting its horn from the beginning to the end of the parade? It blasted our ears and left us stunned with ear noise.
Was the noise over the limit for noise allowed in a village? Were the decimals higher than the law allows? Tinnitus sufferers (there are many) have resounding after affects.

There were children riding on top of the vehicle, too. People along the route were holding their hands over their ears. Can you imagine the damage done to those kids hearing?

Linda - have you ever been to a parade before? I've lived in towns in several states and they all had loud firetrucks and police cars blasting their sirens for the 4th. If you knowingly have Tinnitus and plan to attend loud events it would seem bringing earplugs or ear protection would be the responsible thing to do. I don't have hearing issues and even I took earplugs because I don't like the sirens but I didn't let it spoil the event, I just planned ahead. If you really have an issue do you think some arbitrary noise limit is going to protect your hearing? I'm not sure if it even applies to emergency vehicles or if they are adjustable.
