Routine Traffic Stop Results in Police Chase

What began as a routine traffic stop escalated into a foot chase Wednesday afternoon.

We’ve been getting a considerable amount of emails and facebook comments from concerned residents regarding the heavy police activity in Governor’s Park in Homewood yesterday around noon.

Here’s the scoop:

Police pulled over a vehicle driving west on 175th Street from Dixie Highway after noticing a child inside wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to the Homewood Police Department.

When the vehicle stopped, the driver left and ran, but was eventually captured by Homewood officers, according to police.

While police didn't comment further on the chase itself, one of our Facebook readers shared her account:

"Not sure where it started but he was hiding out in my backyard on Dixmoor and was chased down my driveway and onto Spruce where I believe he was caught ..."

Cocaine was discovered in his possession, police said.

Police found that the man, identified as Antonio Brown, 44, of the 13400 block of Kildare Avenue in Robbins, had five current warrants out for his arrest, one from Posen and four from Cook County, police said.

Homewood police charged Brown with:

  • Possession of roughly 0.5 grams of cocaine
  • Resisting officers
  • Obstructing service of process
  • Driving with a suspended license
  • Driving without insurance
  • Failure to properly restrain a child in a vehicle

Has Antonio not watched ONE cop show ever? Does running on foot from the police ever pan out well? Clearly, this is a man who has made a long string of good decisions. It's a shame that there's a child in the mix that will end up suffering the consequences. Great job, Homewood Police!
