Share Your Metra Experiences
If you've got any noteworthy stories from your experience riding Metra lines, now's your chance to share.
Metra is coming to Homewood Village Hall on July 19 to hold a public meeting on improving the South Suburban Cook County Strategic Plan. In honor of their visit, we thought it'd be fun to collect some stories of our readers' experiences at the Homewood and Flossmoor Metra stations. We might even pull a few as examples to bring to the public meeting.

I find the "quiet cars" are becoming less so over time. They have also emboldened more and more fools in the other cars ("loud cars"?) to think nothing of watching movies on computers and playing music and games on their smartphones -- loudly, and without headphones. Apparently anything goes. The conductors, many of whom are otherwise competent, usually do nothing to enforce civility or decorum on the cars....

I commute every day on the quiet car- never had any issues...it's too bad you have.

They're conductors, not baby sitters.

I had a great day at the Shedd riding the train to and from with my three children. To top it off, as we were about the arrive back to the Homewood Station, the conductor asked who had a future in trains. We told him Daniel did, since he loves trains and plays with them all the time. So, he told Daniel to say, "Next stop, Homewood!" in the loud speaker. He did!!! It was sooo cool! My daughter saw one passenger give a funny look :) Loved the experience. Very family friendly.

Regarding that passenger with the funny look. I know of one trainman who did that once; some uptight passenger complained, and that trainman was fired. Some of the train "regulars" can be real jerks.
