Yes if there's one thing we don't have enough of in the Southland, it's persons with no long term financial stake in their communities. Looks like most of these are single family houses, not apartments.....

I'm in my late 20s, and I've rented in the south suburbs for years. I began as a 24-year-old, and in the five years since, have lived in Orland Hills, Mokena, and Tinley Park. I've rented a house, then several two-bedroom apartments, now a one-bedroom. It's not that I'm shirking having a "long-term financial stake" in a community—it's simply that it's not a feasible option for me. With the current economic climate, many people might find paying rent more affordable than paying a mortgage. This resource is for the situations where buying isn't an option. If renting means fewer people in over their heads, and fewer vacant homes (some people lease while they're trying to sell), isn't that a good thing?

I'm recently seperated and needed a place in the school district. Renting worked out great for me.

Lauren, you might want to think about buying a home now. The interest rates are low and you can get a house at a discount. You can get a mortgage payment for just about what you are paying in rent. And you are young enough that you could actually make money on the house when you sell after the market comes back. Something to think about.

Help, does anyone know of a home for rent anywhere in south suburbs in the price range of $700-$900.00, i have been looking for months and all i have found in my price range are DUMPS! Im a single mom with 3 boys, I have excellent rental history, credit is not bad either. Everyone tells me to buy a home but that scares the heck out me, besides i do not think i can afford a house with the upkeep and taxes besides having to come up with a large down payment. It will be hard enough coming up with security deposit for a rental! Right now I am living with my parents along with my teenage sons an it is very hard on everyone, so i welcome anyone's recommendations

Hi Ryan,

We’re looking for a 3 bedroom home in the Homewood area, and ideas where to search?

Contact a Realtor - They has listing for houses for rent.

This is a service for free. If you decide you like the rental house - the landlord pays the Realtor for his services.
