Sex Offender Watch: A Map of Homes to Keep on Your Radar this Halloween

There are 10 registered sex offenders listed as living in Homewood-Flossmoor. As Halloween approaches, see where registered sex offenders live, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry.

Patch wants to help Homewood and Flossmoor parents keep their kids safe this Halloween.

In general, sex offender laws center on offenders registering in person each year at the local police department. They must do so for a required 10-year registration period, unless they are separately required to register for life. Offenders are prohibited from living within 500 feet of a school, daycare center, youth center or other facility that caters to children younger than 18 years old.

Sex Offenders in Your Neighborhood

A search of the Illinois Sex Offender Registry shows 10 registered sex offenders residing in H-F. One more offender from Homewood is currently incarcerated by the Illinois Department of Corrections.

How the Map Works

The map is interactive, meaning you can zoom in, zoom out, or move it around to see all the plotted points.

Floating your cursor over one of the markers will give you the name of the sex offender and his address. Clicking on the marker will give you more information about the specific charge.

The yellow markers represent sex offenders who are not listed as sexual predators. The red pins are those who are labeled as sexual predators in the registry.

The term refers to anyone convicted after July 1, 1999 of certain violations in the Criminal Code of 1961. Sexual predators are required to register for their entire lives.

There is also an app called "sex offenders" that is great. Easy to take that on your Halloween stroll

It is not only Halloween that we need to watch out for these creeps. They are living right next door to you in many cases.

And the ones on the map are only the ones who got caught...who knows how many haven't.

I am all for this map. Now I would like a map of those who have sold drugs to children, and I would also like a map of people who have murdered other people.

I'm glad you supplied us with this information for the public to beware of what's going on right in their own neighborhood. Nowadays, especially with all the Section 8's rentals Homewood allows, you don't even know who lives next door to you, it could be one of these predators.
Plus, I would like to mention, for residents living on Hickory between Center & Loomis, Homewood, beware as there have been at least 3 home invasions during the day in this area as I was informed of this on 9/21/12 when I arrived home from work. What's going on in Homewood, where's the police presence in this area to deter the crime before it happens, Homewood needs to make their police presence better known in this area and the rest of Homewood to send a message to let these criminals/predators know we won't tolerate them in our village.

Yikes. Two of these scumbags live together at 18445 Poplar Ave. I really hope their neighbors are aware.

Thanks for reposting this. It is very important that parents not let their children trick or treat without an adult. Even kids in groups are at risk because not everyone waits for their friends at the end of a sidewalk... They tend to race ahead to the next house and the next house. PLEASE, neighbors, be aware!

It is to dangerous to trick or treat. We tell our kids not to go to strangers but on Halloween we take them to strangers home to get candy. Hypocritical. Why not just have a big party for all the kids. Times have changed its not the 70's anymore.

Being aware of this map is fine, but sex offenders do not usually snatch children off of their front porches on Halloween. Children need to learn the skills that they need to be safe. They need to know that they should not keep secrets with adults, that they should be able to say "no" to adults who touch them etc.

Saw the police crusing up and down the streets last night with their lights on. Gave me a certain level of safety and security. Nice Touch...Kudos to Rich Hofeld and the Chief of Police....w
