'Turn Off Your Phone,' Says Man to Flossmoor Woman During Movie
A Flossmoor woman requested to sign a complaint against a Crete man who confronted her while she was talking on her cell phone during a movie.
On Saturday, April 28, a 58-year-old Flossmoor woman told police she was watching a movie at Marcus Cinema in Chicago Heights while talking on her phone when a 44-year-old Crete man, who was also watching the movie, became upset with her.
The man approached the multi-tasking woman, pointed at her and yelled, "Turn off your damn phone," according to the report. The woman told police the man's actions caused her to become scared, though she watched the rest of the movie before notifying authorities.
The woman initially told police she only wanted the incident documented, so the man was released. Afterward the woman said she wanted to sign a complaint, according to the report. Police advised her of complaint procedures.
Police report information is provided by the Homewood Police Department and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

EXCUSE ME! The man and the rest of the audience should have filed a complaint against the woman. There are clear notices given before movies to "TURN OFF YOUR PHONE". Common courtesy dictates one not talk during a movie - on or off a phone. I am sorry, but this woman must think the world revolves around her and she is so special that every day rules not apply to her. She will get no sympathy from me. Bravo for the Crete man standing up for the audience as a whole.

Well said Diana! It's because of people like her that I don't even go to the movies anymore.

Someone should give this guy an award! What is the thought process of people who are so entitled they talk over the movie (beyond a quick whisper)--to their friends through out or especially on a cell call? Take the call outside if it must be taken right then.
The rest of the people in the theater PAID to see the movie! Wouldn't it be nice if we could make those rude people paid for our tickets when they disrupt the movies??

Very good point! Next time she should leave the phone on vibrate and if it tickles her then get up and leave briefly like I do.

I am growing increasingly annoyed with the rude people who accept calls, text and talk loudly whilst watching a movie. Can't these people turn off their cell phone for under two hours! Are they so important they cannot be out of contact for such a short time. We need to bring back ushers who can police the audience for texting etc. Be polite, you may not wish to hear the movie but others who have paid good money, do. Bravo to the Crete man!!

I agree with all of you, but it extends past the movie theatre.. how about on the train, while driving or at any other "quiet" event!! I think we were all better off without cell phones! I watched 2 kids walking down the street, unusual as THAT is, but they were both texting. I figured they were texting each other since no one knows how to speak to one another any more!!

I recall seeing a news story back in 1955 "Flossmoor baby dropped on head". This must be the same person. She's a victim. Poor thing.

she wanted to register a complaint??!! The guy was absolutely right--people don't want to hear people yapping during movies--turn off the damn phone or take it to the lobby. She was the rude one. Sounds kooky too.

Stay classy Ms. Flossmoor! She should be forced to refund every patron's ticket cost out of her own pocket. The theater usher should have removed her from the theater --do they even have ushers any more?

If she wasn't so busy talking on the phone she might have seen the notices about turning it off! Good for him. Only thing worse than having a phone conversation during a movie is having a cell phone ring during a church service. Puh-leez! Think about where you are!

I have often thought the same thing, JP but then some people that DO use courtesy and need to be in touch at all times (Emergency workers, Healthcare Workers Computer Professionals etc) would never be able to go to any of these venues while they are on call. Most professionals know that when their device VIBRATES in its holster that they can leave the area and return the call so as not to disturb the patrons of the venue they are at. If we allow blocking of signals we could have some serious unintended consequences.
With that said, I once again will say that I have thought of that solution myself.... Often!

I bet she was gabbing away into the air as so many people do in grocery stores. I used to think they were troubled people, but I now know they can't go for any amount of time talking about nothing on the phone through the wireless ear pods wired into their brains. Especially when it's something like "And I told her 'f*** you b****!" and I'm with my young kids (it's happened). It's as if they don't think the world can hear them.

The only multi-tasking that should be happening in a movie is watching the movie, while eating popcorn, drinking a soda, and programming the fart machine.

Touche! (I'm still on his side though. I'll assume he first approached the situation politely and only resorted to hollering when she continued to think the whole world is hers and hers alone.)

I doubt being polite would have had an effect on this woman. We all know the type. If polite was a part of her character she wouldn't have been on the phone in the first place.

And this is why I wait a few months for the Redbox or Family Video release. Watching in the comfort of my home, without the nonsense (phone calls, obscene language, yelling at the screen, kicking my chair) is worth the delay. Who wants to pay good money for that kind of abuse?

This is ignorant, Lets all pay BIG bucks to go to a movie and listen to some moronic yard ape babble on her cell phone, and then have no right to say anything. The real question is,, was this a HATE crime will the man be put in prison, will he be put to death or just flogged? GEEEEZE Ditch the phone you self centered ignoramous!

. I'm surprised the police even responded to this call. Waste. A lot worser crimes are being committed. I'm a healthcare worker and I always put my phone on vibrate for theaters and church. I wouldn't be surprised this is the same woman that brings her kids to rated R movies.

Go to an usher and let them handle it , you don't work at the theater, lucky you were not shot.

Ushers don't do anything in those theaters anymore. They barely sweep up the obvious pop corn spills.
