I wouldn't have commented on the subject but since you went there I feel compelled.... These businesses aren't really any different than the others - they all serve a purpose but then, there's lots of money to be made off a pretty easy sale and a captive audience . (If you didn't know, 2 of these homes are owned by one company) Is "trust" really the determining factor here? I'd hope you could trust them to do their job.
The funeral industry has the largest markup of any retailer I know. If your loved one just died and you are traumatized are you really going to price shop? Not once your loved one is transported by them it's pretty certain you are just going to listen to the guidance of the nice supportive counselor... It is best to familiarize yourself about your rights, alternatives, options and prices before you (or your family) have to go down this path. It's not sac-religious to be an informed consumer! Funeral homes are regulated by the FTC and they are required to abide by the rules. Too bad the cemeteries aren't regulated as well - they need to be.. You need to know what is required and what is not necessary. Even their low price is still going to be much higher than cremation and you don't even have to use a funeral home, they just want you to think you do. Having a cremation through the funeral home will still have the markup so like all things, educate yourself AND make your wishes known!
