What Should Go Here? 18031 Dixie Highway

What does Homewood need at the crossroads of its central business district?

Formerly both a martial arts studio and election campaign headquarters for 2012 2nd Congressional District Representative Candidate Debbie Halvorson, this downtown Dixie Highway storefront now stands vacant.

What should go here?

What do you think? What would you like to see near the crossroads of downtown Homewood?

Please share your ideas in the comments section.

I suggest a dress shop similar to Laura's, which I've missed so much since it closed several years ago. Like Laura's, this shop would stock a variety of fashionable clothing with accessories for ladies looking for something just a little different from what is available in the chain stores. (And this would be a great spot to shop for those who will be staying just a block away in the new boutique hotel!)

Einstein bagels, potbellys or a corner bakery! Homewood could really benefit from one of these sandwich shops in the downtown area and not on halsted.

Agreed! Sorry but those nifty hole-in-the-wall unique shops don't do well in Homewood.

First, make a list of all the businesses that went OUT of business in Downtown Homewood, and try not to duplicate those failures. Then make a list of the goods and services available on Halsted, and realize that you cannot compete successfully with those businesses. I think I'd rather see "Store for Lease" as opposed to "Going Out Of Business" in the windows.

Corner Bakery and those places wouldn't consider us in a good economy. There isnt enough parking to support those types of places here. I have to laugh at this. How about used bookstore? lol! Einsteins pulled out of Orland! Wake up people!

How about a combination martial arts, hair & nail salon, used book store, Trader Joes, gentlemen's club, & gay bar---one stop shopping.

Ernie, Ernie, Ernie...there you go again, trying to be all embracing and politically correct again...let's think out of the box, let's think FORWARD buddy! How about a gun shop...that sells GUNS and RIFLES and BULLETS! In days long past, some of the best times I've had was target shooting with live rounds at the Oak Lawn gun range and Vicari's in "Da Heights".
I love the smell of gun powder in the morning...it smells like victory!
I say...Gun Shop...anybody else?

Now THAT is some great out-of-the-box thinking! A gun shop with an indoor range might survive and prosper! A lot of Chicago residents want and need to become (legal) gun owners, but need a place to train (comply) with the new Chicago law. Metra is within walking distance and could supply a steady stream of customers from the south side of the city. This could help us protect the 2nd Amendment and encourage more folks to learn the skills necessary to protect themselves in what is destined to become a much more dangerous world.

Great thinking Ernie - while I think it is a good location - basically across the street from the police, traveling on the train with a gun from the south side or anywhere with guns is NOT a good idea. I think Homewood , Glenwood and Flossmoor residents should get a significant break - let others pay a premium that way we can keep it local.

Oh, that's right. I forgot - in the other 49 states one can get a concealed-carry permit. But here in the Peoples Republic of Illinois there is no provision for concealed-carry. That's because the Democrats here know something that the other 49 states don't. They want to keep us subjects, not citizens.
