What Should Go Here? The Old Shooters Site

A lot of great new places are headed for Homewood, but what about the vacancies that persist? We want to know what you'd like to see come to town.

You might recognize this vacancy as the old Shooters restaurant on the corner of 175th and Halsted. It's prominently located near the entrance of the village when traveling southbound on Halsted and it's been refered to as an "eyesore" on more than one occasion by our Facebook readers.

What should go here?

A restaurant? A shop? A service? We want to know!

Please share your ideas in the comments section.

An Olive Garden would be perfect!!!!! Red Lobster would be a good second choice!!!

Red Lobster obtains seafood from Canada. Canada allows the clubbing of baby seals, as well as other terribly inhumane "fishing" practices. The last thing we want in Homewood is a store that apologizes for cruelty to animals.

I would love to see a Red Lobster restaurant or an Olive Garden - great idea!

Famous Daves. But I guess they have already been approached... :-(

I would love a Golden Coral, but only if it's not as poorly managed as most of the rest of the franchise restaurants in the area (Applebees, BWW) seem to be.

All of those chain restaurants are iffy at best, look the Chilis here in Homewood. We really are hurting for a really good restaurant here in Homewood.

The Chili's is the only one of the big chains I will eat at, actually. I've never had bad service or food there.

Homewood needs a buffet. I would prefer a China buffet because there aren't any close to Homewood.

Buffet? No no no... Why encourage overeating?

Yep, we need more buffets so we can create even more obese people. Yep, a Biggest Loser Buffet would be great. I know, I know, it's not a choice, it's a glandular thing. (The mouth gland?)

Apparently, people think that buffets cause overeating. Funny, I always thought it was people who caused overeating. And I'm a fat person.

The building's owner has been in negotiations with a restaurant chain called the Watermelon Factory.

BEST suggestion yet! Brew Pub plus excellent food, not processed and microwaved crap like Applebees serves. Quality brew crafts that the KMart shoplifters won't be interested in but that the Homewood residents who tend to avoid that part of town will want to go to.

Looks like Residont is highly opinionated, should find better use of time to suggest on his/her own, instead of negatively knocking suggestions. At least they are suggestions.

Let me guess. You don't care how your seafood is obtained?

A Three Floyds Pub type, similar to Flossmoor Station, would be oh so grand, with outdoor dining and musical entertainment inside and out would be nice.

I bet the renovations/repairs to existing structure would be a downer for potential buyers.

While I was in college, I worked for a family-owned restaurant. One fall we moved to a building that needed some renovations/repairs. It wasn't so bad to get it all done. When you buy a space, I think you expect it's going to need some work to make it suit your needs, no matter how well-kept it was.

I think Brew Pub or a Portillios would be awesome! or maybe a Trader Joes rather than another restaurant....

It's kind of an interesting contradiction - basically it's a salad buffet. It's pretty awesome.

Red Lobster would be great. Then again anything that creates a few jobs would be great. That location probably will not draw a major chain. However we can always hope. And No. i don't mind my seafood coming from Canada.

Adult seals are. Think of great steak flavor with the density and richness of liver.

Quick, somebody check the human rights record of the US. Okay, now stop buying stuff made in the US because we have a lousy human rights record. /snark

Earlier sarcastic comment aside, I think what it comes down to is that we all have to do our best to figure out what we can and can't do without, in terms of ethical buying. If that resident doesn't want to eat at Red Lobster, good on them. If they want to let us know, good on them too. I don't mind being informed. I just don't need a to be smacked with a PETA hammer.

And there are ways to act ethically that don't involve boycotting an entire country, which is a rather large hammer. Here's what Canadians do to buy seafood responsibly: http://www.oceanwise.ca/

you also can never have too many strip clubs in the south suburbs! Perfect location to make the H/F patch police report even more interesting!

Granite City or Mad Anthonys. We could also use a Furrier.

Sweet Tomatoes!!!!! It is FANTASTIC Food and MOSTLY a salad bar. I Love to eat healthy and Sweet Tomatoes in Downers Grove is the closest and therefore we do not drive there unless going to Fry's! Would probably eat there at least once a week. Prices are good, food is very fresh, and the selection is large! first introduced to the chain in Portland O and have been hooked ever since. Have been to all 3 in the Chicago Area and love them all.

Wish more restaurants would offer:
1. Online menu (with Prices)
2. Email signup for cupons and food updates
