Senator Hutchinson Addresses Special Election

The Following is a Statement from State Senator Toi Hutchinson on the Special Election to Replace Congressman Jackson:

I want to thank Congressman Jackson for his past service.

As a long-time resident of the second Congressional District, where my husband and I have raised our three children, I believe we deserve a strong leader in Congress who will protect Social Security and Medicare and fight to bring new jobs.

Over the coming days, I’ll be speaking with my family, neighbors and community leaders, whom I’ve known and worked with for years, to explore a campaign for Congress.

In the State Senate, I’ve fought for our schools and to make our communities safer by preventing sexual assault.  And in Springfield, I’ve always led by example, cutting my own pay and benefits.

I’ll have more to say in the coming days.  I wish our families a happy Thanksgiving and pray for those who are fighting for our country abroad and can not celebrate at home.

Senator Toi Hutchinson has Integrity! Integrity is the one thing that no man can take from you. Anyone, rich, poor, old, young, anyone of any faith, can honor their personal choice to adhere to their values no matter what circumstances arise. Integrity is having the ability to respect someone else's rights even if your moral compass is in diametric opposition to someone's actions, choices, beliefs, etc. Integrity is having the conviction to be fair-minded. Integrity is honoring the correct choice in a system (be it governmental or humanitarian) even under duress or even if there's the temptation of an easier, faster, or more lucrative choice. I would definitely vote to Senator Hutchinson if she decided to run for congresswoman and support her in any endeavor she pursues.

I don't think you meant to use the "one thing no man..." phrase. It might be the one thing no person can take from you, yes? Interesting gender slip on your part.

In general I agree with your definition with obvious limitations. Clearly you can't respect the rights of others who are physically or emotionally aggressive and seek to hurt others. And often their is disagreement as to what the "correct choice in a system" is when the system can be corrupt or dysfunctional.

Note to Toi Hutchinson. If you are interested in my vote, and the vote of others like me, focus on issues where the D2 office can really make a difference. I'm not concerned about SS or Medicare and neither should you. Jobs? How the government believes it should be in the "job creation" business when it can't balance a budget is more fantasy than reality.

Tell me how you plan to reduce taxes, the size of government, and support individual freedom. Tell me how you plan to sponsor and vote for bills that reduce people's dependency on government and help them become self-sufficient.

Ditto for you Lewis if you plan to run.

Dinkum - I agree with your second sentence - someone running for Congress should focus on the issues that a Congressman actually handles - but after that, I think you've gone off the rails. Of course our Congressman should focus on Social Security and Medicare - those are Federal responsibilities. And I think we can safely say that the successful Democratic nominee in D2 will not be someone who tries to appeal to the Tea Party Right. The right size of government is neither larger or smaller - just whatever is required to meet the needs of the people. The right level of taxes is whatever it takes, on a current basis, to support the right size of government. Someone whose only answer to every question of public policy is that the right size of government is smaller than it is now and right level of taxes is lower than they are now just isn't thinking deeply enough to be worth listening to.

Nice party line post Nick. Not original, or even interesting, but it fits the status quo.

And for the record, I'm neither Tea Party, Republican or Democrat. If you're OK with the current levels of taxes and services then living in D2 and Illinois must be great for you. For me, it's not. and anyone who thinks it is isn't worth reading.

Dinkum-The statement “others like you” is open ended and does not explain anything about you or the group you are referring to. An elected official has to represent the people in their district not just you and others that might think, look, act or talk like you. What are you referring to when you say the D2 office? Is that an interoffice term? Why shouldn't the Senator be concerned about SS or Medicare, because you aren't?

Antron Q- I think my second paragraph is quite clear about me and those who see the role of government and elected officials the way I do. These voters come from all walks of life and I don't care if they look, act, or talk like me. Or even if they have a middle initial.

D2 office? The JJ vacated seat of course.

Let me explain something to you real quick. When conceptualizing the theory of the state and its citizens, oftentimes, the term justice is considered. Our theories of the state are deeply influenced by our theories of justice. The commonality between the theory of the state and justice is a direct correlation of ones perception of politics from past traditions to the present. These two terms help frame how society think, react, and feel about the issues of society today. Justice is very important to human organization because it includes the involvement of the people, theorist and scholars. Justice can be broken down into two types of theory. The two types are analytical theory and normative theory. Analytical theory is the theory that explains why things are the way they are. It is descriptive of the actions that have transpired. Normative theory is the theory that is prescriptive of what should transpire. It is what ought to be or your preferred vision.
Your statements involve your preferred vision. They benefit you and the people who are “in your group.”

Stand back, all you yahoo not serious to pay attention to folk. I don't know a Toi from a Wookie. Heloooooo! So if theToi states her positions for representation of the 2nd, which by the way on a federal level includes addressing SS, Medicare, Medicaid, the proposed airport, and a host of other issues, I will think about what is stated and then, only then will I venture to rendure an opinion about whether to approve or not approve.
All the gibberish heard today, represents no more than a issuance of a noisy fart. You hear it, it smells, but nothing worthy results from it other than something bad happened. Let's wait a few seconds, here what needs to be said by the candidates before rendering such well thought of comments.

Review of the IL5thCD, the seat that Rahm gave up. Twenty-seven filed petitions from three parties. At this point, many have expressed interest in the IL 2nd District race in various forms. By Monday, Gov. Quinn will set the dates for the Special Election, including the first date candidates can file nominating petitions. IL5thCD: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IL5thCD Joe Lake, Chicago

AQW: When a state senator becomes a candidate for representative on the federal level, positions can and should be different, because constituants, issues and policies to be in favor of and advocate for are. Those who look at the internet as gospel for their beliefs, without knowing what candidates believe, have purchased the Brooklyn Bridge, many many times....What people say is important so that commentst may be checked against actions previously taken. That's where I have been.

Understood Moosia, when I sated that one should check the internet, I was referring to valid sources like the Illinois General Assembly. You can see what bills they sponsor. Only if you want to be more informed. Sure what people say is important however, I would like to think that what they do is more important.

Well, AQW, apparently not in D2 since 100,000+ voters re-elected MIA Jackson. Maybe they are illiterate. Or maybe, to modify your line from a previous post, they voted for someone who "thought like them, looked like them, or talked like them".

It's clear we don't agree on much AQW but we do agree on this point. Anyone with 5 minutes and access to a computer (private or public) can review an elected officials record. What they sponsor and how they vote should carry the most weight when considering their performance and IF they should remain in office. The rest is noise.

Now Moosia (you left off the h, didn't you?). Everyone knows the Brooklyn Bridge is no longer for sale since the voters of D2 voted to purchase it in the recent election (it was the special ballot for those who were Jackson supporters).

To be fair to the Q, the Internet can be a valuable resource IF FACTS are carefully reviewed.

Toi Hutchinson will be an excellent representative for the D2 district. Her record of standing firmly on issues that affect both young and old, both rich and poor and all those in between makes her a prime candidate. I have gone to the state senators office and have always been granted a generous ear. But she can not do it alone just as our President can not do it alone. I for one will welcome someone from our community and a product of our local schools including the University of Illinois with wide open arms. I support her should she decide to run.

Toi - another machine politician, cut from the same cloth as the others. Run for / get in office, make the right noises (rhetotric), meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Expect her to be sympathetic to constituents because of the over reach / mismanagement of government, back-breaking, freedom killing, life sapping taxes? Think again.
Just like Quinn with his Squeezy character strangling the life out of the state (taxpayers) Quinn tries to distance himself (and other Democrats) from the problems by making them look like a monster who crept out of a dark closet one night. - "Oh, dear, however did this all happen?!" and "Shared sacrifice, shared sacrifice!"
Toi has big, oppresive, self- righteous govt written all over her, and not the wit nor inclination to act for the taxpayers as a whole.

Kathy- Your rhetoric is beguiling and baseless. You have not spoken an ounce of fact about the topic. I agree, the state has to make some dramatic changes across the board, but the government can’t just start cutting taxes and not expect major drawback from important programs, some lifesaving. What do you suggest be done? Have you ever reached out to your elected officials, state, local or federal? It’s one thing to voice your opinion to others, but is very important to get involved with the process. What have you done to affect change in your district? All politics is local, I would start attending your local council meetings.

It doesn't matter what Juvenal's credit is or if the US has been downgraded. Nice try at a red herring Q.

Take a look at the totals for those CC. Almost $13K in charges. And she had to be taken to court instead of working out the payment details with those two companies (which means she ignored them).

In this day more companies do credit checks on employees before they hire them because that number reflects fiscal responsibility. But not the government or voters. This information, Q, is important.
