DESCRIPTION:Former Westminster Cathedral Organ Scholar and current organi
 st at Chicago's Cathedral of the Holy Name\, David C. Jonies\, will perf
 orm an Anniversary Organ Recital featuring works by English composer Wil
 liam Walton\, Chicago composer Leo Sowerby\, and others. The event is FR
 EE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.\nA native of Germany\, David Jonies received 
 his first musical training as a chorister and organ scholar at Metten Ab
 bey in Bavaria. Subsequently\, David was admitted to the Hochschule f&uu
 ml\;r Musik W&uuml\;rzburg\, where he studied with Gerhard Weinberger (o
 rgan) and G&uuml\;nther Kaunzinger (improvisation) and graduated with te
 rminal degrees in organ and church music.\nIn 2002\, David was awarded a
  scholarship by the Royal College of Organists to pursue postgraduate or
 gan studies with David Titterington and James O'Donnell at the Royal Aca
 demy of Music\, and received the Academy's prestigious Performer's Diplo
 ma in 2004. While in London\, he also held positions at the Chapel Royal
 \, Hampton Court Palace and at Westminster Cathedral\, where he worked w
 ith the world famous choir on a daily basis.\nAs an organist\, he has be
 en invited to perform in such distinguished venues as Westminster Abbey\
 , Bamberg Cathedral\, the London Handel Festival\, the Bach Festival of 
 Pusan (South Korea)\, the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Michigan\, Spo
 leto Festival in Charleston\, and at the world's largest organ in Passau
  Cathedral.\nRecent engagements include recitals for the 2012 Organ Hist
 orical Society National Convention in Chicago and recitals at the Cathed
 rals in Trier\, Germany and Milwaukee\, WI.
