Weird Power Outages; Minutes with the Mayor: Feedback Friday

We like when you talk to us. In fact, we like it so much, we made a feature about it.

Hello everybody and welcome to this week's installment of Feedback Friday: the feature that features you.

How's it been?

Well over here, the number of our Facebook fans is continuing to climb up towards the upper atmosphere. Right now, at 1,155 Facebook "likes," it'll certainly break into orbit any day now.

Thanks to all of our new and current readers on Patch and the H-F Patch Facebook page.

Overheard on Facebook

On Thursday, we asked readers if they were experiening any anomalies in their electrical service. The question spawned from a momentary lapse in my own service sometime during the early evening. It seems like this is happening sporadically throughout the neighborhood. Here's some of your responses:

  • Deborah Ann: Flights just flickered at 183 & May
  • Alice Wilson Hoekstra: Lights went out at willow school today also...
  • Geoff Amann: Yep, ours went out too near Willow. Third time in a week!
  • Deborah Ann: Ours went out for 5 seconds. We never have any issues. Weird.
  • Alice Wilson Hoekstra: It was really quick....just a few seconds.
  • Laurie Schneider: We are over by dairy queen side and ours went off and right back on. Just enough to mess up the Internet.
Comments on H-F Patch

If you've been paying attention over the past week or so, you may have noticed our call for question for Homewood Village President Richard Hofeld. Earlier in the week, we put up a feature to help narrow them down. While Patch intends to present him with as many of the recommended issues as possible, these comments seem to be the most pressing questions currently, as indicated by our poll:

  • Why are owners of abandoned homes allowed to let those buildings go to ruin? Why are abandoned buildings not subject to annual inspection to ensure they are not a fire hazard and/or other hazard to the community? —Paul Manno
  • What is being done to retain businesses in Homewood? —Gayla Carlson Boomer
  • Could we do something about the entrance to Homewood off the expressway? Looks like someone is entering a dump with that abandoned hotel there followed by the closed up restaurant. And further the empty Arby's ... I understand wanting a cute downtown but we have to get people to want to get to the downtown area. And that's hard when you're greeted with those sights right off the bat. —Vicky Jones Rappatta
  • Updating and enforcing the hwd. dog ordinances. I walk my dogs on a leash though they don't need it, but several dog owners act as if the leash law in town doesn't apply to them. Also, the dangerous dog ordinance is old. Any dog breed that is in the dangerous category by insurance companies should complete the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification ( as my dogs have ) for temperament testing. One of my dogs was attacked by three 'bully' dogs, and the owner could not control them. I understand that dogs are not people, but they are family too. The present dangerous dog ordinance did not protect my dog as the victim of the attack ... —Frank J Casella
  • When's he gonna let us have chickens? —Kate Duff

Thanks, once again, to all of our readers for your continued loyalty and support.

—Ryan, editor.
