Picnic Perfection: Patch Picks

Barbeque season is upon us! Check out these local hot spots for the best places to picnic this summer.

Izaak Walton Preserve

Izaak Walton Preserve has it all. 193 acres of trails and lakes, this is the place to go for all your outdoor recreational desires.

Millennium Park Splash Pad

When the kids need to cool off this summer, head over to the Millennium Park Splash Pad. There is a five dollar fee for non-residents, but residents are free. Right across the way is a sheltered picnic area; it’s the perfect place to eat and play.

Apollo Park

Apollo Park  is equipped with sand volleyball courts, a playground, ball fields and tennis courts. They also have a great picnic area with barbeque grills.

Sweet Woods Forest Preserve

If you’re an avid bike rider, check out Glenwood’s Sweet Woods Forest Preserve.   There are many picnic tables and picturesque places to eat in this wooded retreat.

Irons Oaks

Enjoy a picnic at Irons Oaks and make sure to head over with your children to the Open Discovery Center on Friday May 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There, they can be part of various interactive exhibits and discover all sorts of things about our natural habitat.
