H-F Grad Named Illinois Athlete of the Year

Beyond athletics, Homewood's Kaitlyn Shereyk is also an accomplished scholar and artist.

Homewood 'Jill of All Trades' Kaitlyn Shereyk might as well add juggling to her list of talents. The recent H-F High School grad, artist and award-winning athlete finished up her senior year ranked 17th in her class of nearly 700, according to the Northwest Indiana Times. In between keeping up her studies, Shereyk played on the all-SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference in softball and the SWSC Blue selection in volleyball. She was named MVP for both.

Now, Shereyk can add another prestigious honor to her accolades. On July 4, the Northwest Indiana Times announced Shereyk as their selection for Illinois Athlete of the Year for her outstanding seasons.

In the fall, Shereyk will attend South Carolina University where she plans to study chemistry, with hopes of becoming an orthodontist. She'll also play as a preferred walk-on on the softball team, of course.
