Overheard on Facebook

This week we asked how they felt about U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson calling the iPad a "jobs killer". Here's what H-F Facebook fans had to say:

Debbie Hart: What about the jobs created developing, manufacturing, and selling the iPad. Do those not count? If JJJ lived in the early 1900s, he'd probably be clinging to the buggy whip, too.

Barry Latham: It's convienient to point to the iPad as the problem because no single entity runs the Internet. What about all of the technology jobs that exist because of online media outlets (like the Patch)?

Betsy Bayley Van Etten: Another example of Jackson being an embarrassment to his constituents...

Megan Millen: This is also the guy who recently said that public libraries are no longer necessary because of ebooks.

Rebekah Moore: This also from the guy who has been re-elected for 16 years, yet producing nothing. Including no jobs!

Voices Speak Out on H-F Patch

Flossmoor's Village Board v with their consideration of a new storm water utility fee which would add an extra $12 to each resident's monthly water bill. Here's what H-F Patch readers had to say about it:

I will support this if it means that action will be taken in an effort to keep water out of our basements.

: $12 a month is too much, if we have to raise rates, how about $5 or $6 a month. Our water rate is already too high!

: If it was a school increase, $144/year would have to go to referendum for voter approval, but call it a utility tax and the board just has to approve it.

How about we keep our twelve bucks and the villages employees pay something close to a market-level contribution toward their gold plated health plan premiums instead????????????????

: Some commenters seem to think this fee/tax on every household will be used to alleviate water problems in homeowners yards and basements. The article says the fee/tax "is expected to help alleviate a portion of the projected budgetary deficits in the General Fund as a result of segregating these utility costs". This money will solve a budget problem, not water/seepage problems.
