Memorial Day Musts: Frugal Family

This week: how to have a stellar Memorial Day weekend on a budget.

Just because it's a holiday weekend doesn't mean you can't have free and cheap fun all weekend long!

Memorial Day Parade

Celebrate our veterans and enjoy a great parade in Homewood on Monday, May 30th. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and travels south down Dixie Highway to Olive Road and west to Harwood Avenue. It will then stop at Veterans Park for a ceremony.

South Chicago Heights will also honor veterans past and present at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30, at the Veterans Memorial. Refreshments will be served immediately afterward.

Free Music

Are you ready for free summer music? Millennium Park is hosting a free Monday concert series all summer long. Memorial Day's free concert features "Emerging Artist of the Year" of 2009: Justin Townes Earle and R&B Legends Andre Williams and the Goldstars.

Don't want to venture downtown? How about cooling off instead? The splash pad's opening day is Memorial Day! It is free to H-F residents with proof of residency. Non-residents are $5.
