More than 100 Pets in 36 Hours Find New Homes

Many pets found new owners this weekend, as South Suburban Humane Society held a 36-hour, nonstop adopt-athon.

More than 100 pets from South Suburban Humane Society went home with their new families this weekend.

During a 36-hour nonstop adopt-athon July 19–20, the Chicago Heights-based shelter saw to it that many of its furry residents wouldn't be returning to the facility.

"116 SSHS adoptions and 146 adoptions all together in 36 hours," staff wrote on their Facebook page.

"To be completely honest, we are too exhausted to properly thank everyone to whom we owe a debt of gratitude. So instead for tonight, we ask you to pause with us and think about the many, many empty cages at the shelter and the many, many pets who are laying their heads down to sleep tonight in homes. From the bottom of this little-shelter-that-could's heart: THANK YOU."

Did you adopt from the shelter during the adopt-athon? Which animal is now a part of your family? Tell us in the comments!
