Runners, Get Ready: 'Jogging for Josie' 5K Registration Now Open

A new 5K race will be held on August 24 in Homewood to benefit Josie Nordman, an area woman battling cystic fibrosis. The race will begin promptly at 9 a.m., at Apollo Park.

The Homewood community is rallying around one of its own—Josie Nordman, a sophomore at Northwestern, who is battling cystic fibrosis.

While Nordman continues her battle with the disease, the community continues to stir up support and funds to help Josie and her family.

Residents are asked to hit the pavement for the Jogging for Josie 5K on Friday, August 24, at Apollo Park. The race costs $30 to participate for pre-registered racers, or $35 the day of the event.

“This is kind of a way that we could raise money in a different way. … It kind of came out of our love of running,” said Pam Davis, the race’s registration organizer.

As the bills continue to mount for Josie, the community has raised about $50,000 in funds via two website sites: Josie Nordman's Lung Transplant and the Josie Nordman Lung Transplant Fund.

“This event, and the ones like it, are really just trying to alleviate the out of pocket costs the family has,” Davis said.

Those who register early will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and more. After the race, entrants, family and friends can gather for post-race refreshments and live entertainment by Phyllis Marconi.

More information about the event can be found at the race’s website.
