H-F Students, Flossmoor Art Commission Install Statue at Flossmoor Public Library

Homewood-Flossmoor High School students and the Flossmoor Art Commission installed 'Bell Tower,' a statue commemorating Flossmoor's education history. The installation was attended by local dignitaries, residents and even Mayor Paul Braun

After a year of planning, design and construction, the Flossmoor Public Library now has a new statue to call its own, thanks to the Flossmoor Art Comission and Homewood-Flossmoor High School art students. The statue, which is called 'Bell Tower,' was dedicated May 19, during a ceremony which was attended by Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, village trustees, the students responsible for the statue and several members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School District board of education, along with local residents.

During the event, Braun called the statue commemorating education apropos for the village.

“'Bell Tower' commemorates the importance of education in our community,” he said. “Something that we know so well, something that's been a part of our community since Flossmoor was founded in 1924.”

After brief comments from Braun and H-F art teacher Greg Petecki, the 17 students responsible for the construction of the piece and the assembled dignitaries gathered to cut the official ribbon marking the statue's installation.

Residents can view the new statue anytime by visiting the Flossmoor Public Library. A list of students who worked on the statue can be found below.
