Business Profile: World of Enrichment

The new Homewood business, World of Enrichment, has a mission, "to deliver high-quality enrichment programs that embrace the community." Owner Kristine Hussain speaks to Patch about classes and her vision to unify our youth.

Why did you choose Homewood as the location to open ?

World of Enrichment's mission is to delivery high quality enrichment programs that embrace community, creativity and culture while developing life skills. After extensive research, we found that Homewood would be an ideal location because the town is known to be family oriented and the community, overall, desires a high-quality education for their children.

In addition, we felt that our enrichment boutique would not only complement the  downtown plan, but bring additional exposure to the village and other businesses, because our programs attract families from all surrounding areas.

Please tell us about your programs.

We are so proud to offer a variety of high-quality programs for the community such as Musikgarten Music Literacy Education for children from birth to age 9, our own unique Spanish language classes for ages 3 to adult, new cooking classes for kids ages 5 to 12, Mexican folk dance for children ages 4 to 12 and childbirth education classes for mommies to be. In addition, we are the provider of the only early childhood technology curriculum in the country: Discovery Kids and Puterbugs technology classes, for children ages two and one-half to eight.

What inspired you to help facilitate such a multicultural community?

My inspiration comes from who I am as a mother and what my needs are for my own family. As descendants of European, Middle Eastern, African and Latin American origins, we not only celebrate and love our culture, but we truly understand the origins, nuances and sensitivities that encompass our entire lineage. There's much more to that, and we feel we have a responsibility to educate others in order to break the barriers that exist.

What message do you hope to convey to children.

We want children to know that no matter where they come from, they can do anything if they put their minds to it. Everything we teach here provides life lessons, helps children exceed all expectations and helps them to reach their full potential.

How do you keep children engaged in the classes you teach?

We provide a holistic approach because all of our programs for children are developmentally designed to meet the needs of each child. We specialize in small group lessons with plenty of hands-on learning and we connect personally with each student. Our programs are not "one size fits all.” We are constantly customizing each child's learning experience to ensure that they are fully benefiting from their lessons.

What are your upcoming events?

Come visit our table at the Homewood Farmers Market next Saturday, where we will have a free kids cooking activity.

Every other month, we feature a kids night out club, where parents can drop off their children on a Saturday night for an evening filled with fun projects, games, dinner and a movie. Our next event is scheduled for Oct. 15 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please note: pre-registration is required.

A little confused here by the Q &A format. Is Lilly Melin the author or the owner or both?

I have reached out to the editor to make the correction, Kristine Hussain is the Program Director and she is fantastic.
