Chocolate Fest in Homewood

Homewood's annual Chocolate Fest had the H-F Auditorium packed to capacity this Saturday.

The  Park District Auditorium was jam-packed with people on Saturday as vendors, competitors and chocolate-lovers came out to experience Homewood's Annual Chocolate Fest.

Greeted by a local 50’s cover band, Fast Eddie and the Corvettes, attendees of the event were able to peruse local vendors' chocolate and homemade confections.

Popcorn Town and Candyland of Tinley Park gave out samples of their tasty chocolate and nut covered caramel corn. Family- owned Ey Coffeeroaster of Valparaiso (regulars at Homewood’s farmer’s market) gave caffeine-lovers at the event a bit more of an energy boost than chocolate alone could provide. Flossmoor-favorite Sweet Annie’s  served up their version of whoopee pies and rich chocolate brownies.

Mitchell’s Candies and Ice Cream of Homewood were also at the event, claiming the secret to their creamy ice cream was told “18% butter fat”. Mitchell's also announced their newest flavor, which was rather fitting for the event: “Double Chocolate” ice cream.

One hidden gem was the remarkable artistry of Karen Scobbie Cakes. Run out of a commercial kitchen in Homewood, Scobbie's custom masterpieces are amazing and were recognized as the winners on an episode of TLC's  “Ultimate Cake Off".

The Community Relations Commission also held a bake-off contest at the event. Competition looked fierce: from torts to whoopee pies, brownies to cake, but in the end, no one could compete with the winning Mississippi Mud Brownies of Girl Scout Troop 632.
