High Gas Prices Set March State Record

At just under $4 per gallon, there's no sign of price relief at the pump anytime soon.

The current state average of $3.92 per gallon of gas is the highest ever for March, the Chicago Tribune reports. That’s 59 cents more than January prices—a mark of record acceleration, too.

Oil refinery maintenance and a decline in production are responsible for the record-breaking prices, according to AAA Chicago spokesman Bill Mosher.

Things won’t be getting better anytime soon, either. As the seasons change, refineries will be transitioning to (slightly) more environmentally friendly, but more expensive summer blends of gas.
