Homewood Woman Dies After Injecting Hot Beef Fat Into Her Face

Medical Examiner tells ABC 7 that while she went to the hospital because of the pain in her face, the injections did not directly cause her death.

A Homewood woman died Thursday after injecting hot beef fat into her face around her mouth and chin, a procedure she had apparently self-administered multiple times before.

Janet Hardt, 63, reportedly went to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest Thursday with complaints that her face felt like it was burning and had become singed, CBS Chicago reports. She was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m.

ABC 7 reports that the Cook County Medical Examiner says the woman died of a ruptured colon and that the injection did not cause her death. The woman reportedly had a history of multiple facial surgeries.
