In the 29th House District Democratic primary, 5,375 voters cast a ballot for Rep. Thaddeus Jones, Calumet City, to 1,975 who voted for challenger Kenny Williams, South Holland. There is no Republican candidate. The district includes the east end of Homewood, Chicago Heights, plus parts of Calumet City, South Holland, Steger, Crete, Sauk Village, Glenwood, Lynwood.
In South Chicago Heights, 243 yes votes were cast to 86 against on the question of letting South Chicago Heights issue $2.5 million in bonds to build a public safety facility, with three of four precincts counted.
Voters in the Steger-South Chicago Heights Library District decided against a tax hike on a vote of 510 against to 317 in favor, with five of six precincts reporting in Cook County and all four precincts in Will County, according to unofficial totals.
Sauk Village sought the ability to impose a $2 surcharge on each telecom connection to improve the emergency 9-1-1 system. That was voted down 356 to 108 with all eight precincts reporting Tuesday night.
