H-F Area LWV Greets Local Mayors at Pot Luck Supper

The first meeting of the 2012-13 "season" for the H-F Area League of Women Voters included presentations by four local mayors who spoke about their respective communities.

The Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters recently held its first program of the new season with a Pot Luck Supper. After members and their guests sampled food from a bountiful buffet, four local mayors -- Paul Braun (Flossmoor), Robert Donaldson (Hazel Crest), Rich Hofeld (Homewood) and Deborah Meyers-Martin (Olympia Fields) presented reports about their villages.  These reports included information about how the community's economic health has changed in the last decade, what challenges the community considers to be the most pressing and how these challenges are being met, and what is happening with respect to housing foreclosures in the community -- and the real estate picture in general. The audience was most appreciative of these mayors' presentations.

Hostesses for the evening were Board members Karen Maurer, Ruby Marsh, Maureen McSherry, Susan Palcek, Erin Roeper, Chris Schmitt, and Margaret Smith.

The next meeting/program will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:00 p.m. at the Homewood Library. A panel will discuss the Affordable Health Care Act.  The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend this free presentation.
