HF Area LWV Hosts Program on Climate Change

Dr. Richard Treptow, retired chemistry professor, recently presented a program on Climate Change to the Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters.

The Homewood-Flossmoor Area League of Women Voters recently hosted a program on Climate Change at the Homewood Library.  Thirty-four members and guests attended a presentation by Dr. Richard Treptow, retired chemistry professor from Chicago State University and member of the Union of Concerned Scientists and a lobbyist for the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter.

Co-program chair Karen Maurer introduced Dr. Treptow whose presentation included a slide show.  In addition to pointing out the difference between the terms "climate" and "temperature," he also explained the danger of "fracking" and the potential negative consequences of installing the Keystone XL Pipeline from Canada to Louisiana. Dr. Treptow also cautioned the audience about the environmental dangers involved with using plastic materials.

Marie King and Lizbet Temple provided refreshments for the evening.
