LWV of Illinois To Hosts State of State Luncheon

The League of Women Voters of Illinois is pleased to announce that Sheila Simon, Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, will be the keynote speaker at its annual State of the State luncheon on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Union League Club of Chicago. 

In addition to Ms. Simon’s participation, the League will present its Civic Participation Award to Emily Barr, President and General Manager, of ABC7 Chicago.  This award is given to recognize an individual, company or organization whose actions have made significant contributions to the public good in the League’s areas of priority.   Under Ms. Barr’s leadership, ABC7 Chicago has done much to promote an informed electorate, a primary mission for the League. 

All are invited to attend.  Proceeds from the State of the State luncheon support the League’s Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable organization established to encourage informed and active citizen participation in government, to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy.
