Three Members of the Homewood-Flossmoor LWV Participate in Special Training

Three League of Women Voters members from the Homewood-Flossmoor Area League recently participated in a special leadership development training sponsored by the State League in Aurora, IL.

Marjorie Armstrong, new coach in the MLD (Membership Leadership Development) program; Maureen McSherry, returning coach and a Board member; and Erin Roeper, co-president of the HF League, as well as MLD coordinator for LWVIL, took part in "best practices" sessions that included techniques for growing the skills of community leaders, for increasing visibility of the League, and for empowering citizens to exercise their voices in the political process.  Local Leagues across the country are implementing the leadership program with the support of a team of volunteer coaches.

Founded in 1920, the LWVUS has fought to improve government by engaging the public. The League started the organizational capacity building program, which includes trainings like the one held in Aurora, to continue the organization's legacy of helping ensure that government is working for all.  In anticipating of this year's election, the League is ramping up its preparations to serve as a resource for voters in each community.
Workshops were led by state League trainers, national coach Linda Mahan of Colorado, and national League staffer Kelly McFarland Stratman.
