ALL ABOARD! Ride the Rails

South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society will ride the South Shore Line train from Hammond to Michigan City, Indiana. Local author and historian Cynthia Ogorek will narrate our trip, pointing out points of interest along the ride. We will meet at the SSGHS library at 8:30 a.m. and car pool to Hammond. Those that live closer to Hammond can meet us there at the train station at 9 a.m. Once in Michigan City we will tour the Barker Mansion, "the house that freight cars built". The house was build by John H. Barker, one of the founding fathers of the rail car industry, and now on the National Register of Historic Places. Lunch is on your own. Meet back at 3:30 to ride the train back to Hammond.

Tickets are

$15 per person for those 65 and over and $20 for those under 65. Tickets must be purchased in advance at South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society. The ticket includes the train and the tour of the mansion. Deadline for purchase is Monday, July 7, 2014. Send a check and the names of those attending to: SSGHS, 3000 W. 170th Place, Hazel Crest, IL 60439.
