The Four “Islands” in Southern Cook County

South Suburban Genealogical and Historical Society has Peg Kapustiak is speaking about the South Suburbs.

Did you know that there are four islands in southern Cook County: you may even live on one of them. This talk is about the geology, geography, natural habitat and history of those four islands. Ever wonder why your neighbor’s sump pump runs all the time and yours does not? Why are there so many cemeteries in southern Cook County? Why are the railroads, the canals and the interstate located where they are? With old maps and geological surveys, diaries and family lore, these old islands live on and still exert an influence, even if mostly forgotten in our modern world.
