The Surrealist World of Rene Magritte
The paintings of Belgian Surrealist Rene Magritte have fascinated viewers since before World War II. Many find Magritte's works as intellectually challenging as they are visually appealing. In this slide lecture, art historian Jeff Mishur discusses Magritte's relationship to the Surrealist movement and places a variety of his paintings in an appropriate historical context. This program is the perfect accompaniment to the upcoming exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago -- Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938 (June 24 - October 13, 2014).
