CANCER SUPPORT CENTER INVITES ALL TO PAY HOMAGE TO THE CANCER JOURNEY AT ANNUAL WALK OF HOPE
CHICAGO – August 2, 2012 – On Sunday, October 7, 2012, The Cancer Support Center (CSC) will host its annual Walk of Hope at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Avenue, Homewood. It takes courage to face all of the challenges cancer brings. Join The Center and over 1,000 community members in reminding those touched by a diagnosis that they do not walk alone. The Walk of Hope is brought to you by our Title Sponsors—Great Lakes Bank, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Vantage Oncology and Home Bound HealthCare.
Join us as we celebrate life and healing at our single biggest fundraiser. The Walk of Hope raises funds to provide programs for those whose lives have been touched by cancer, at no charge. Start building your team today! The pledge goal per walker is $100. Please register online at www.cancersupportcenter.org or call the Walk hotline at 708.365.1201 for more information. Individuals, age 15 and up, can register for $25. Children, ages 5 to 14, can register for $15. Children under 5 are FREE! No pets, please! Year after year, walkers unite to honor loved ones and support The Center as a place of help, hope, and healing in the Southland community.
“Devastation is what you feel when your Doctor tells you, ‘YOU HAVE CANCER,’ ” said last year’s Team Fundraising Award recipient, Dorothy Johnson of Team Faith Walkers. “I needed to know someone that had experienced what I was going through. I found that at The Cancer Support Center in Homewood. Wow, I felt I am not alone after all.”
The Cancer Support Center provides wellness programs and services to help people improve their quality of life during the cancer experience, at no charge. In 2011, The Center had over 8,000 visits from those in need of our resources, over 100 new callers each month, and gave 222 wigs to women who were losing their hair due to chemotherapy. The Center is able to provide these resources to anyone, regardless of financial ability, because of the generosity of individuals and organizations like you.

About The Cancer Support Center
The Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL was formed in 1994, when six Southland women worked together to open a home-like center (with locations in Homewood and Mokena) for people in more than 70 Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana communities.
The Center provides services to a diverse participant base including cancer patients, caregivers, children, teens and friends of the cancer patient at no charge. Having seen their ideas grow to fruition, several of the original “seed planters” still serve in day-to-day roles at The Cancer Support Center.
In addition to support groups, individual and family counseling sessions and The Center’s comprehensive Resource Center, wellness programs are offered on a weekly basis. Participants enjoy yoga, qi gong, meditation, relaxation, massage therapy, Reiki and healing touch. On average, The Center staff responds to more than 300 calls or visits to the Homewood and Mokena locations.
