Homewood Resident Toasts 100th Birthday with Wine, Visit from Mayor

Marie Nicholson had quite the celebration for her 100th birthday. But what was her favorite part?

It had been 30 years since Marie Nicholson had sipped some red wine, but her 100th birthday seemed just the occasion to indulge.

Homewood-based South Suburban Rehab Center recently helped Nicholson celebrate the centennial milestone. Mayor Richard Hofield stopped by and presented Nicholson with a certificate honoring her big day.

Before coming to the facility in 2008, Marie remembers living in Chicago most of her life. She married her husband William Nicholson before the Japanese War. Together they raised 2 children, and today she has many grandchildren.

Her early life included working as a librarian, and working many years with Illinois Bell Telephone Company.

Now at 100 Marie loves artwork. She spends most of her day drawing and painting by number.
