"Hats Off to Helping" at Western Avenue

Western Avenue Students Help Support Education Around the World

During the month of November, the students of Western Avenue participated in “Hats Off to Helping” to support elementary students in the Dominican Republic.  The money earned during this campaign, was used to purchase school supplies.  Our second grade teacher, Tracy Bulfer, connected with a family from the capital city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic during her multicultural education class last year.  Through this family, she was able to learn a lot about their culture and about the poverty stricken areas of the Dominican Republic.  Tracy and her family traveled to the Dominican Republic this Thanksgiving to visit this family.  During her stay in Santo Domingo, Tracy and her family visited the local elementary school.  The students were overjoyed when they received the bags of supplies that the students at Western Avenue had made for them.  Tracy also made a video, which she will share with our students this upcoming month!
