Flossmoor Hills' students Walk for Diabetes

Flossmoor Hills donated $800+ dollars to the Walk for Diabetes program.

According to the Center for Disease Control 2011 statistics; 25.8 million Americans across all age groups are affected by diabetes. Flossmoor Hills Elementary school has realized the importance of educating their staff and students on this prevalent disease.  The students recently participated in Flossmoor Hill’s annual Walk for Diabetes program. This program allowed the children to walk the school grounds during their assigned gym time, while securing donations for a cure from friends and family. This year, the students raised a grand total of $824.00! ($684.00 in walking donations and another $140.00 in a “penny” collection) The students learned that diabetes can occur at any age, can run in families, and that the best way to prevent type 2 diabetes is through diet and exercise. The entire staff at Flossmoor Hills school received instruction from a certified diabetes educator on the signs and symptoms of diabetes as well as prevention measures.    Flossmoor Hills School is doing its best to promote awareness and encourage participation in finding a cure for diabetes.
