SD 161's "Cadere for Professional Learning Support" pave the 21st Century Road to Success

School District 161 begins training to teach 21st Century Learners.

Over the last two weeks 25 teachers from Flossmoor District 161’s five schools began their journey as “Train the Trainers” in the district’s 21st Century Learning Initative in which students will work with one-to-one digital tools such as iPads and MacBook Air laptops.

The trainers began their journey by being introduced to MacBook Air laptop computers. Teachers learned the different features of the technology and how it will aid in lesson planning, creating documents, and organizing the computer for efficiency. Teachers marveled in the ideas of virtual “stickies,” an Apple program made to mimic traditional post-it notes, as well as the music creation program, “Garage Band.”

On day two of training the teachers mastered the iPhoto and iMovie programs as well as browsed student and teacher projects made with these programs. One thing is sure; the learning that will be occurring in these 21st Century classrooms will not only excite students but inspire them to create virtual books, films, and presentations to show-off their hard work and mastery of lessons.
