Yet for many students, and especially those who struggle to make grades, reading fluency (or a lack thereof) is to blame for a lot of late nights and classroom woes.

Reading fluency means being able to read quickly, accurately, and effortlessly. But it also means more than that.
More so than speed (in fact, by most measurements, readers don't need to be very fast at all to be considered fluent),reading fluency measures efficiency-the ability to read and comprehend text at a smooth pace without having to pause to consciously decode its meaning.
