St. Joseph Gears Up for Annual Lenten Fish Fry
Fish fry season begins at St. Joseph Parish in Homewood.
Lent is upon us and so is the St. Joseph Athletic Association’s Annual Lenten Fish Fry which is held weekly at St. Joseph Parish’s Fr. Sayers Hall in Homewood.
Volunteers began preparing for the well-attended event Thursday evening. According to Bob Major, President of the St. Joseph Athletic Association, more than 3000 people attend the event each year.
“We’ve been holding our fish fry for 24 years,” Major said. “It has become a highly-anticipated community event. Good food. Good people. Good times.”

Raffles and split-the-pots will be held weekly to add to the fun. Sponsoring merchants include The Little Guys, Idlewild Country Club, Redd Driving School, Grape & Grain, Flossmoor Station, The Fifth Quarter, POSH Salon, The Art Corner, Savoia's T'Go, Walt's Food Center, Cilantro's, Nix Nax, Grady's Grille, the Egg & I, Aurelio's Pizza, Homewood Florist, Dunnings Market, Camm's Automotive, Sylvan Learning Center and Balagio's.
The first fish fry will be held on Friday, February 15 and runs every Friday through March 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Featured is all-you-can-eat Alaskan Pollack fish. Other dinners available include cathfish nuggets, shrimp, and spaghetti. Mac-n-cheese is available for the kids. Fish dinners cost $9 and Spaghetti dinners cost $5. All dinners include curly fries, coleslaw, rolls and dessert. Mac-n-cheese costs $5. Senior discounts are available from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Soft drinks, beer and wine are available at an additional cost.
